About this Class

Interested in solving a real-world problem and making a difference in the world? If so, then this is the class for you! In this class, students will learn about the Stanford Design Cycle and will then utilize that engineering process to design solutions to problems that they identify in everyday life. Students will also have the opportunity to practice utilizing the cycle to specifically address a water-related issue in the world.

All Ivy Camps USA classes have a final project that students work towards throughout their time in their class. In this class, students will use their innovation skills and the Stanford Design Cycle to create (and present) a solution to a real-world problem

Students will Learn

  • How to utilize the Stanford design cycle (Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test) to solve a real-world problem of today
  • Methods to identify a need in your community/world
  • Empathy for others
  • Techniques to brainstorm and ideate new ideas
  • How to build a prototype to solve a need
  • About the science of water, including states of matter, the water cycle, animal life, soap and shampoo, water in the human body, and more
  • The engineering concepts and technology related to water, such as water filtration, technology developed to clean the ocean, turning saltwater to freshwater, etc.
  • How to utilize math concepts to understand access to drinkable water
  • How to build their skills in areas such as creativity, problem-solving, design thinking, collaboration, empathy, and collaboration
